I was trying to perform synchronization of OST file in Microsoft Outlook. While doing synchronization, I got the below-stated error message on my screen that appears to be like this:

'The operation failed due to a registry or installation problem. Restart Outlook and try again. If the problem persists, please reinstall.'

MS Outlook users at times, receive this error message while carrying out regular mailing activities, such as sending, receiving, deleting emails, compacting or synchronizing Outlook account etc. Sometimes, your Outlook may shut down, unexpectedly, while in most of the cases the error appears repeatedly. When clicked OK after receiving the above error message, Outlook starts running in a right manner. However, when you exit the application and try to restart Microsoft Outlook, you come across another error message that appears to be like this:

'Your offline folder file could not be configured.\\ComputerName\FolderName\Outlook.ost.'

ComputerName is the computer name on which installation of Microsoft Outlook has been done and FolderName is the name of the folder that includes the offline file.

This particular error message appears, along with the above error message, in case you are trying to synchronize the offline folder file (.ost file) of your Outlook mail account. The problem occurs, primarily in a networked environment and the OST file is located in such a computer which is not shared or which is unavailable.

As a standard resolution, first store the OST file on the local system. Next, verify whether the OST file is available on the local system before you run any synchronization command.

Hopefully, after the synchronization, your Outlook runs perfectly else, you need to reinstall the Outlook. Also, check for any possible corruption or damage of the OST file. At times, due to a corrupt OST file, your Outlook may fail to function properly. In that case, you can use OST to PST Converter to resolve the problem.
