Seagate drives are popular among PC users, enthusiasts, and laptop manufacturers. They are affordable, easily available, and known to be reliable.

However, a recent hard drive reliability report by Backblaze—a cloud backup provider—revealed that despite being a preferred choice at Backblaze too, Seagate hard drives were among the drives with highest failure rates.

Since Seagate drives are widely used, and stats indicate a high failure rate, here’s what you can do in case you’ve lost data from Seagate hard drive.

Possible Causes of Data Loss From Seagate Hard Drives

There may be several reasons, which can lead to data loss from a Seagate hard drive or any other storage media. Mainly they are divided into three categories as follows:

      1. Logical Failure

      • Virus or Malware attack.
      • Human error.
      • Corrupt files on hard drive.
      • Increase in number of bad sectors on the hard drive.
      • A sudden power surge or power failure.

      2. Physical Damage

      • Drop (shock damage).
      • Overheating.
      • Water damage.
      • Improper handling.

      3. Mechanical Failure

When you start hearing strange noises from a hard disk such as clicking, grinding or screeching under normal usage, it means that there is a mechanical failure. Due to mechanical issues in the drive, you may face problems similar to logical failures such as frequent system freezing and OS crash.

      Seagate Hard Drive Recovery

While physical damage and mechanical failure issues need a professional data recovery service, data loss due to logical faults in a Seagate hard drive can be solved with the help of a professional data recovery software such as Stellar Data Recovery Professional for Windows from the ease of your home or office.

This software comes with advanced data recovery features that make it a reliable and secure choice for Seagate hard drive recovery. Moreover, it comes from the house of Stellar Data Recovery, a data care product and services company that’s recovering data since 1993 and trusted by more than 2 million users.

Seagate Hard Drive Recovery by Using Steller Data Recovery Professional

      2. Make sure to use a different storage device to store the recovered data. Never save recovered data on the same hard drive.
      3. Use an HDD enclosure or SATA to USB 2.0/3.0 converter to connect internal Seagate hard disk with another PC via USB port for data recovery.

Follow the steps to safely recover data from a logically damaged or failed Seagate hard drive.

        1. Hi Tamy,
Seagate stores and use your personal data to give you your rights in connection with the use of this Software and for purposes related to quality and service, as set out in the Privacy Policy. Please read all the instructions carefully.

      1. Hi! I used my Seagate external drive on iMac. It stopped working and tech service provider changed the casing. At home, iMac recognised it but disconnected saying “the last the hard drive wasn’t ejected properly”. Then iMac refused to show it. I took it back to the tech service provider. Now, they’re scaring me saying hard disk is spoiled, they are trying to “recover” data. When I persisted they said they don’t know what to do. Do you have any solution for this problem please? Thanks.

      2. I have tried using a deep scan. The Deep Scan function takes more time, but it recovers most data. Furthermore, it is highly effective as it thoroughly searches for the deleted data inside each sector on the hard drive based on file signatures, facilitating RAW data recovery—very useful Software.

      3. Data Loss is a critical issue that results in losing our precious data. So it is preferable to Start creating backups on the cloud or external HDD or SSD from today. A regular backup will keep your data safe and help you resume work within a few minutes or hours after any data disaster.

      4. Hi I have a seagate that was being used on an Xbox and we think it crashed we’re not sure it just abruptly stopped working. Can all the games and game data be recovered??

      5. Hi my internal Slim Hard Drive stopped working. i removed and put in external case to recover data but the system cant detect. not even showing in disk management.

      6. How about for the Seagate Personal Cloud srn21c external drive. It stopped working and Seagate support did not help. I do not want to spend thousands of dollars to try and recover the data. What are my options? Satish Kumar

        1. Hi Satish, our software doesn’t work on a cloud. So you should contact your hard drive vendors [Seagate]. But if you want to recover data from a local machine, physical hard drive, or any other storage drive then you can try stellar data recovery. It will help you to recover data efficiently at a cheap cost. Thanks

      7. My 3 TB Seegate was dead. So I removed the lower controller which is totally dead, and salvaged the hard drive and connected it via ATA to my PC. It shows as a drive but it says it is encrypted, how can I recover the data? Your help would be appreciated.

        1. Hi Wolfgang, if your data is encrypted, then it won’t be decrypted by Stellar Data Recovery. But you can recover your lost data efficiently. Here you can visit the hard drive vendors forum and ask your query. They will help you decrypt your data. Thanks.

      8. Hi. my seagate 4T is not working. Pop up box says

        Location not available
        X E:\ is not available

Please make sure that all require system drivers are loaded and tahat the volume is not corrupted.

Also wnated me to format my hard drive…

      9. Hi, I have a 12Tb drive in a external box as usb and used it for about 2 months.
Today it doesnt work, after connecting to the PC via the usb the disk is recognized by disk manager without the drive letter and with no data. I had 5Tb on the drive. How can I recover them ?
What could be the reason to this failure ?
        Best

        1. In the ‘Disk Management’ tool, right-click on the recognized ‘unallocated’ ‘RAW’, or NTFS’ drive partition and choose ‘Change Drive Letter and Paths..’ and assign a drive letter. Then open ‘File Explorer’ and try to access the drive volume.
If you can’t access the drive volume or see a prompt to format the drive, click ‘Cancel’.
Install Stellar Data Recovery software and run a Deep Scan on the partition.
Save the recovered data to a different drive and then format the volume via the ‘Disk Management’ tool. This will fix the drive volume and make it usable. You can then transfer the recovered data back to your 12TB/5TB drive and use it normally. Let us know if this helps.
