There are several factors that affect data recovery. These factors may either improve or cut down the chances of successful data recovery depending on how quickly you realized or responded to data loss and what actions you performed to get it back.

After data loss, each action that you perform on your PC or drive can have severe consequences.

If a scan had been completed few days back and you have loaded the saved scan then those files will not remain on particular sectors and may result in 0 kb files. We recommend to perform a new scan and check the results.

Also, continuous usage of your PC or drive after data loss can lead to data overwriting, resulting in permanent data loss—beyond recovery.

TIP: Stop using your drive and system immediately after data loss. Check your backups and use a reliable data recovery software to recover data before anything else.

In such a case, the software may display the files with its actual size after the scan in the scan results. This is because the software locates files based on file-signatures, which contains information about the file, such as file name, type, size, etc.

But after saving the file, you may find the recovered file empty with size 0 KB. This happens due to overwriting, which erases actual data on the drive.Further, problems such as lack of admin rights, drive encryption and read/write-protection may also lead to such issues.

TIP: Make sure your Windows user account has sufficient rights to access the drive that you want to scan and ensure that the drive isn’t encrypted or read/write-protected.
