When you’ve deleted essential applications from your Mac storage drive accidentally, all is not lost; you can get them back. But before learning the recovery techniques, you should know the reasons behind app deletion on macOS. You may accidentally delete the Mac apps by:

      • Dragging and dropping of an app from the Applications folder to Trash
      • Deleting an app from the Applications folder by using the Command + Delete hotkey
      • Removing an app in favor of another but later requiring the previous one
      • Formatting of your Mac storage drive that removes all the installed apps
      • Failing to update Mac apps that can lead to their crashing and subsequent deletion

The next sections describe various methods that can help you restore your deleted apps on Mac.

Methods to Restore Your Deleted Apps on Mac

      1. Put Back Deleted Applications from Trash

When you’ve deleted an app folder or the app is missing from your Mac, the first thing that you would do is to check your Trash. If you find the app folder, right-click on it, and select Put Back. Or else, drag and drop the app folder from Trash to the Applications folder.

If you cannot find the app folder in Mac Trash, this means that you’ve emptied the Trash recently. In such a case, you should try the next methods. Also Read about Mac trash recovery.

      2. Install Deleted Applications from App Store

If you’ve purchased the app from the App Store, you can easily reinstall it without spending money again. Just go to the App Store on your Mac and click on the ‘Purchased’ tab. Under this tab, you’ll see a list of all the apps you’ve purchased from the App Store. Find the deleted app from this list and click on the ‘Install’ button next to it to have it back again.

      3. Restore Deleted Apps from Installation Medium

When the deleted app was pre-installed on your Mac when you bought it, and you cannot find it in the App Store, you can restore it from your installation medium. But, some apps cannot be installed directly from the installation medium; in that case, you need an installer. Download and install an appropriate installer and then connect the installation medium. After that, you should be able to extract and install the app that you want from the installation medium.

      1. Why only deleted application, it also recovers photos, audios, videos & office documents files from Mac Hard Drive. Bravo to Developers for this life saving innovation.

      2. I accidentally replaced a home-made application that embeds the data with another, empty file (no data). I would need to recover my original filename.app application – the one before it being overridden.
Is there any chance the stellar would manage this?

        1. Hello Albert,

We recommend trying our Stellar Data Recovery Professional for Mac in order to recover such kind of files.

As our software works on “what you see is what you can recover”. That means the files will be recovered in the same manner as you were able to see them in the preview window after the scanning is complete.

Once you are satisfied with the demo version results, you can buy a full version to save the recoverable data.

      3. I deleted iPhoto application from my MacBook as it was responding slow. After reinstalling the same application, I didn’t find my old pictures. Can you please guide me how to restore lost photos from deleted application?

        1. Look into the photo library to find missing pictures. Also, look in the Trash Can for your missing pictures. Even if you don’t find your files, I would highly recommend you to try Stellar Data Recovery Professional for Mac software to restore your missing iPhoto pictures.
