      1. There’s something that no one seems to include, which is the size limit on video files a device can play. I travel a lot with my tablet & have lots of content on the drive & in the SD card. Lately, video quality improves so of course the size of the files increases. I can get VLC player to play movies about 4GB in size, but I have some movies 10GB and more which can be played on a laptop but not my Samsung Tab S6. I’ve tried playing these files from both the main drive as well as the SD card to rule out file read buffering. I’ve been planning on upgrading to a tab S8+ but if it won’t play large video files, maybe I need to get a laptop instead, if tablets can’t keep up with growing file sizes. If my $1700 work laptop can play a 33GB copy of “Interstellar”, so should the most modern tablets.
No player or app seems to be able to get these files to play, so this limitation, is it hardware limiting software, or vice versa? Not enough ram? File type?
If I have to convert every file larger than X, it’d be nice if the OS told me.

        1. Hi James,
Thank you for reaching out to us with your descriptive and interesting query about the compatibility of the large-size videos. So, talking about such a scenario, it is absolutely that this is completely related to the hardware configurations of the device in which you want to play your videos. To get a bit more specific than it, the screen of the device needs to be compatible with the resolution of the videos you want to play. So, for example, if the video has a 4K quality resolution and the device hardware only supports 720p, then it will not be playing the video.
Regarding your Samsung Tab S6, the display hardware has a supported resolution of 2560 x 1600 (WQXGA). But, at the same time, 4k videos are usually 2160×4096 or 2160×3840 pixels. It is because the 4K stands for the horizontal pixels. But the Samsung Galaxy s6 has only a display resolution of 1600×2560 pixels.
So, while purchasing any new device, you should always check the screen’s resolution so it can support the videos you want to play on it. To check the resolution of the videos you want to play, you can check the properties of the video files on a PC.
          I hope it helps!

          1. Thank you for this added info about the screen resolution, for I find some mp4 plays great in my S7 Fe tablet and some do not. The ones that do play are lower 640×480 and 1098×1998, or 2k resolution. If this tablet can only do 2550 horizontal, then 4k will simply not work, and I need to scale down such videos to fit those parameters.
