  First of all, I would like to suggest you to check whether the show hidden file option is marked or not. Might be the show hidden file option is unchecked that’s why some of your files become invisible.   It seems that your drive is not in good condition and requires replacement. As you said it is brand new, then it will be in under warranty. So I would suggest you to go to the Seagate hard drive shop and ask for replacement.
