On March 11, 2025, Microsoft released the KB5053598 update for Windows 11 24H2 as part of its Patch Tuesday cycle to fix some known security vulnerabilities and issues. This is a mandatory release which means that the update is designed to install automatically on all eligible devices. This update contains fixes for security issues for Windows operating systems, including a solution for zero-day vulnerability, and brings some new features.
However, there are reports that installation of KB5053598 update is failing and causing various problems. Users have complained about installation failures, with error codes 0x800F081F, 0x800f0993, 0xC004F211, and 0x80070032.
According to Windows Latest, “Windows 11 24H2 Patch Tuesday update gets stuck at various percentages 6%, 20%, 38%. It would get stuck at ‘Something didn’t go as planned’ error message.”
“In other cases, this patch downloads and installation starts. However, at 30%, the system restarts and the update continues. At 98%, sometimes 99%, the system restarts again and then show starting restart update,” it added.
Even after some users managed to successfully install the update on their PCs, they still ran into Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) errors or their PC failed to boot. Some users reported facing connection issues with RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol).
Windows 11 users are not the only ones affected by this issue – with the end-of-support deadline fast approaching and the push to transition to Windows 11 ramping up – Windows 10 users are also feeling the heat as they face the tough choice of upgrading or risking their PCs losing support in October.
At the time of writing, Microsoft is yet to acknowledge these issues or release any fixes. If you can still access your system and want to resolve the issue, consider rolling back the update.
